CAE Community of Practice Cyber Operations

2026 CAE Community Symposium - CO Track Request for Proposals
It Is All About the Knowledge Units
A critical contribution of the CAE Cyber Operations program has been the integration of military-specific technical skills into a wide range of academic programs. Rapidly evolving cyber technologies means there is no single model program of study that would meet all DoW technical cyber needs. The CAE-CO-CoP solicits point papers that describe additional cybersecurity-related topics appropriate to be nominated as a candidate KU. The intention here is not to change or modify existing KUs, simply to nominate additional cybersecurity-focused optional KUs.
-
Point papers should be submitted in either Word of PDF format.
-
Single column format in Times New Roman 11pt font, with 1 inch margins, top, bottom, left and right.
-
Submissions should be made via Easy Chair.
-
Submissions will be accepted with a hard deadline of 15 February 2026.
-
Selected submissions will be scheduled to make a 10 minute presentation followed by 5 minutes of discussion.
Approximately seven proposed KUs will be selected for presentation during a 2 hour session at the symposium. Multiple submissions on the same or similar topic may be consolidated for presentation. Submissions not presented at the symposium will be provided a presentation opportunity when the CAE-CO Community of Practice sessions resume in 2026. All submissions will be consolidated into a single PDF and provided to the Program Office and all members of the CAE-CO Community of Practice.
Submissions are limited to two pages with a 15 February 26 submission deadline and should include the following:
-
Author’s name, university affiliation and the department where he/she is appointed.
-
Short narrative describing why the proposed KU is suitable for inclusion as a new optional KU and its Alignment with the DCWF (Defense Cyber Workforce Framework) https://www.cyber.mil/dod-workforce-innovation-directorate/dod-cyber-workforce-framework
-
Then the body of the submission should include the following Model KU Structure:
Name: The name used to identify a knowledge unit. The name is followed by a three letter key in parenthesis. The key is for indexing in data structures.
Description: A short narrative description of the scope and contents of the knowledge unit. The intent of this knowledge unit is to provide students with a [basic/intermediate/advanced] awareness of [details].
Outcomes: A description of student based outcomes associated to the knowledge unit.
Students will be able to [outcome #1].
Students will be able to [outcome #2].
KU Topics: A list of elements in the KU. These topics should be listed in an appropriate hierarchy of detail. The format of the topics element should appear as follows:
High level name 1 – description of the high level name
Sub level name 1 – description of first sub level element
Sub level name 2 – description of second sub level element
High level name 2 – description of the high level name
. . .
High level name N – description of the high level name
